'Dangerous' gusts up to 50mph set to sweep London as Met Office issues wind warning
"Gusts of up to 50mph could sweep across London and the south east this afternoon, according to the Met Office. A yellow weather warning came into force at 8pm on Sunday and will run until 6pm on Monday. Londoners are likely to feel 45mph-55mph west or south-westerly gales, with transport delays and short-term power cuts possible. Experts say wind speeds of 50mph or more are considered dangerous, as they can cause significant damage to trees, power lines and buildings."
"The coming week will bring "changeable" conditions with periods of wind and rain throughout. Mr Morgan said: "The ground has started to become fairly wet over recent weeks and it will not take a huge amount more for there to be some surface water, potentially some flooding issues as we go towards the middle part of the week.""
A yellow weather warning covers London and the southeast from 8pm Sunday until 6pm Monday with gusts around 45–55mph and peaks near 50mph. Strong west to south-westerly gales may cause transport delays, short-term power interruptions, and damage to trees, power lines and buildings. Commuters are advised to check road conditions and public transport timetables for possible delays or alterations. Sunny spells are expected with highs near 18C (64F) by early afternoon, followed by a windy, unsettled pattern and heavy blustery showers later in the week. Wet ground raises the risk of surface water and localized flooding midweek.
