Could Banksy finally be unmasked? Police probe street artist's new work outside Royal Courts of Justice
"Banksy could finally be unmasked after police said they were investigating the famous street artist's latest work on the side of the Royal Courts of Justice. It is understood to be a reference to activists who have been arrested and charged for supporting the terrorist organisation Palestine Action. However, the illustration outside the court was immediately covered up by security guards, large sheets of black plastic and two metal barriers shortly after appearing on Monday morning."
"Less than 24 hours after it was spotted on the Grade I-listed building, His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service confirmed it would be erased. A spokesman for the executive agency said that it was "obliged to maintain its original character" of the court. The Metropolitan Police have also launched an investigation into the graffiti, which is on an external wall of the Queen's Building on Carey Street."
An image attributed to Banksy appeared on an external wall of the Royal Courts of Justice and was quickly covered by security and black plastic. The work is believed to reference activists arrested for supporting Palestine Action. His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service said the mural would be erased to maintain the court's original character. The Metropolitan Police opened an investigation after receiving a report of criminal damage on September 8. Criminal damage can carry up to ten years' imprisonment, with lesser penalties for damages under £5,000. Defend Our Juries said legal suppression of civil liberties strengthens dissent. Banksy is widely believed to be from Bristol.
