"Jennifer Kiely, 35, was found dead in Hollywell, Eastbourne, by the Sussex fire service in the early hours of 22 January 2005. She had been stabbed multiple times, had sustained an injury to the back of her head, and her body had been set on fire. The attack was thought to be sexually motivated and two suspects were arrested in the same year but they were later released without charge due to insufficient evidence."
"Over the past few years we have traced and identified several people who shared similar component parts of the DNA found at the crime scene, all of whom volunteered their DNA for forensic analysis. A sample obtained from a man in the north of England in summer of 2024 proved to be the final piece of the puzzle which meant we could formally nominate a suspect."
Jennifer Kiely, 35, was found dead at a seafront shelter in Hollywell, Eastbourne, on 22 January 2005; she had been stabbed multiple times, suffered an injury to the back of her head, and her body had been set on fire. The attack was thought to be sexually motivated and two suspects arrested in 2005 were released without charge. DNA recovered at the scene included a full male profile from a cigarette butt that also matched DNA on her body and in her blood but did not appear on the national database. Tracing and voluntary samples produced a match in 2024 identifying Keith Dowbekin, who died in 2014 and was known to stay in Eastbourne, as the suspected perpetrator.
