Chery will open a European research and development headquarters in Liverpool, Merseyside, housing research, engineering and commercial functions for its commercial vehicle arm. Chery sells in the UK through its Omoda and Jaecoo brands and is launching the Chery brand with advertising featuring Peter Crouch. The UK government has pursued a plan for Jaguar Land Rover to build Chery electric vehicles in Britain, with talks linked to a visit to Beijing but no deal announced. Chery has said it is actively considering a UK plant as part of localisation. Officials have discussed potential use of spare capacity at JLR's Halewood factory, but no manufacturing agreement has been finalised.
