Care home resident died of sepsis after catheter got blocked, court told
Briefly

Reginald Goss, at 91 years old, died on October 27, 2024, due to complications from a blocked catheter leading to severe urinary tract infection and urosepsis. An inquest has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, which occurred shortly after being admitted from a care home. The coroner, Nadia Persaud, indicated that both Goss's family and the care home would be able to question witnesses during the inquest. Reports from the care home and his GP will be collected to assess the quality of care provided to him and any potential concerns raised by his family, with a provisional inquest date set for August 20.
Mr. Goss had a blocked catheter, which had caused severe urinary tract infection. His cause of death was given as urosepsis, against a backdrop of frailty of old age.
Coroner Nadia Persaud ruled the death required an inquest, stating that Mr. Goss's family and the care home would likely both be interested persons.
