Defence Secretary John Healey acknowledged that the British Army is on track to reach its lowest personnel numbers in over 230 years, falling below 70,000 for the first time since 1793.
Healey expressed frustration over the situation, stating, 'I am really angry about the state of defence after the last Government: there are billion-pound black holes in defence plans; service morale is at record lows; and Army numbers are set to fall below 70,000 next year.'
In response to concerns, Healey promised ongoing efforts to enhance military readiness, insisting, 'We will work night and day to make our forces more fit to fight, and to make Britain more secure at home and stronger abroad.'
Former armed forces minister Mark Francois criticized the current government's approach, arguing that it has fostered a climate of fear among soldiers who worry about legal repercussions from operational tasks.
