Britain's worst major train stations for cancellations
""It does feel like I miss out and come across poorly," she said. "It's difficult with professors who themselves have busy schedules, trying to say, 'oh, can I have a 20-minute lenience window?' It's quite embarrassing.""
""It's so stressful, especially if when you get on a train, it's dark and you don't know whether it's actually going to stop at your station. It's scary.""
Office of Rail and Road (ORR) figures show City Thameslink had the worst cancellation record among Britain's 100 busiest stations, with about one in 13 of almost 150,000 scheduled stops cancelled in the year to August. Nationwide there were about three million cancelled stops of a scheduled 89 million. Smaller stations suffered heavily, with Earlswood experiencing one in 10 stops cancelled and ranking sixth worst. Thameslink manages both stations. Passengers reported missed classes, stress, safety concerns and a desire for more advance notice and more reliable late-night services. The government says it is determined to drive up standards through a major rail overhaul.
