Bob Vylan Won't Face Charges for "Death to the IDF" Chant
""We have concluded, after reviewing all the evidence, that it does not meet the criminal threshold outlined by the [Crown Prosecution Service] for any person to be prosecuted," the Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement. "No further action will be taken on the basis there is insufficient evidence for there to be a realistic prospect of conviction.""
""Sometimes we have to get our message across with violence because that's the only language some people speak, unfortunately," he later told the crowd, while an on-stage backdrop read messages such as "United Nations have called it a genocide. The BBC calls it a 'conflict.'""
""We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.""
Avon and Somerset Police concluded the evidence did not meet the Crown Prosecution Service's criminal threshold and announced no further action due to insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction. In June, Bobby Vylan led Glastonbury fans in a chant of "Death, death to the IDF" and said sometimes violence is the only language some people speak, while a backdrop displayed messages including that the United Nations called it a genocide. Glastonbury organizers, the BBC, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized the remarks. United Talent Agency dropped the duo and their U.S. visas were revoked. The duo, longtime Free Palestine supporters, said they oppose deaths of any race and called for dismantling a violent military machine, accusing its soldiers of using unnecessary lethal force and saying Gaza has been largely destroyed. U.K. police previously dropped a similar investigation into Irish rap trio Kneecap.
