The BBC Make a Difference Awards have been re-launched to encompass the entire UK for the first time, allowing for nominations from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The annual event aims to honor individuals who contribute positively to their communities. This year, winners will be celebrated in September through ceremonies led by local and national BBC radio. Awardees, like Jim Dyne, co-founder of a project aiding Parkinson's patients through boxing, emphasize the awards' role in growing their initiatives and fostering community engagement.
Winning the Make a Difference Award has really helped us push forward and spread our message that we can help. Lots more people have joined us and, in partnership with England boxing and Parkinson's UK, we have started delivering training in boxing clubs around the country to help coaches work with people living with Parkinson's disease.
Being nominated and winning a Make a Difference Award has to be one of the proudest moments of my life, especially when I think of the circumstances that led to it. The award helped me come to terms with the loss of Donavon and inspired me to push forward with my plans to start up an inclusive sports programme.
