Bay Area resident drives supplies to Ukraine
"I wanted to work on causes that are important to me. ... I really wanted something where I felt I could help on the ground, like I can drive, I can pack stuff."
"It was a heck of an experience and I've really come back as a changed person. I learned a lot."
"There's nothing quite like seeing and talking to people firsthand. ... actually being there and talking to a bunch of people, it really made it more visceral."
"They don't waste any time getting it out there."
Christian Thwaites, a Novato resident and veteran of investment management, took an unexpected step by volunteering to drive supplies to Ukraine. Motivated by his family's history in public service and a desire to support causes that mattered to him, he connected with Driving Ukraine, a charity focused on providing aid to the war-torn nation. Thwaites completed a 1,400-mile journey to deliver a modified vehicle and engaged with local volunteers, reflecting on how the experience changed his perspective and deepened his understanding of the situation in Ukraine.
