The historic site receives around 18,000 visitors annually and staff need to manage up to 80,000 letters and postcards, as well as monitor a colony of 1,500 gentoo penguins.
We have no running water on the island and basic washing facilities. Staff must adapt to limited hygiene options, occasional shower access from visiting ships, and shipped food from the UK.
