Seamus Gill, a renowned silversmith whose work has been displayed in prestigious venues, experienced a tragic burglary during the Easter weekend that robbed him of a lifetime's worth of creative work. His Dublin studio was broken into, resulting in the theft of unique original jewellery and design pieces accumulated over decades. Gill expressed his anguish over the loss, not only highlighting the personal importance of the pieces but also their significance to contemporary Irish design. He has appealed to the public for assistance in recovering the stolen items and has been buoyed by the support he's received since the incident.
It's with a very heavy heart that I share some devastating news - my studio has been broken into over the Easter (weekend). Decades of work have been taken: original jewellery, including one of a kind legacy pieces, prototypes, and the full creative development of my upcoming collection. This is more than a theft - it's the loss of a lifetime's creative journey.
The pieces were both of deep personal significance and part of Ireland's contemporary design and craft story - irreplaceable works that represent years of exploration, learning, and craft.
