A20 to shut again as four suspected explosives found days after Kent police shoot man

Police conducted searches following a shooting on Ashford Road in Hollingbourne, where a man was shot by an officer during an arrest. The man, in his 30s, is hospitalized in life-changing condition. During searches, at least four suspicious devices were found, leading to road closures. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating, noting that no officers are under investigation. The incident was not related to terrorism. The man was holding a chainsaw and another object resembling a firearm or explosive device while wearing body armor.
Based on analysis of evidence gathered to date, no police officer is under investigation for either misconduct or criminality; they are being treated as witnesses.
Police shootings are fortunately rare; however, given a man has been injured after being shot by police, our role is to independently investigate all of the circumstances surrounding this incident.
During the shooting, officers suspected he had a firearm or a possible bomb. The man refused to leave the house and armed officers were deployed.
The incident was not terror-related. At the time, he was holding a chainsaw and another object in his hand, which appeared to be a handmade firearm.
