Jakub Koźniewski's Models of Crisis is a series of three kinetic sculptures that interweave mechanical motion with generative text to examine internal psychological states. Utilizing Large Language Models trained on emotional inputs, these sculptures transform algorithmic language into kinetic poetry, presenting a physical reflection of mental conditions. The pieces—Mood Swing, Train of Thought, and Rise & Shine—each depict unique psychological phenomena, showcasing how digital tools can articulate subjective cognitive experiences. This design-led approach draws inspiration from the OuLiPo movement, merging literary techniques with digital and mechanical artistry.
The project developed by designer Jakub Koźniewski references the literary constraints and structure of the OuLiPo movement, applying these principles through contemporary digital and mechanical means.
Mood Swing is a system that represents constantly fluctuating sentiments. The display changes in rhythm with movement, visualizing emotional instability.
Train of Thought is a continuous scrolling mechanism delivering an uninterrupted sequence of generated anxious and regretful reflections, simulating the recursive nature of overthinking.
Rise & Shine is a cascading form that cycles through affirming statements, with physical motion reflecting repetitive and ultimately unproductive reassurance mechanisms.
