Two killed in head-on highway collision in South Lake Tahoe

Around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a green 2001 Toyota Sequoia and a silver 2015 Chevrolet Traverse collided on Highway 50 near Audrain Way. For unknown reasons, the Toyota and Chevrolet collided head-on within the eastbound lane, leaving two dead and four injured.
The driver of the Chevrolet, an 84-year-old man from Wellington, Nev., and a passenger in the Toyota, a 50-year-old woman from Fremont, both died. Four other people were injured, including the severely injured Toyota driver.
It's not clear what caused the crash or why one of the drivers veered into oncoming traffic. Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact the South Lake Tahoe CHP Office at 530-539-9500.
