Amtrak's NextGen Acela will debut on August 28, establishing a new era of high-speed rail with a maximum speed of 160 mph. The trains will connect Washington D.C., New York City, and Boston along 457 miles of track. Amtrak will introduce five new trains this month, with 28 planned by 2027. Key features include increased seating capacity, ergonomic designs, 5G-enabled Wi-Fi, and additional power outlets. Enhanced schedules for both weekdays and weekends will also be available, with booking options through mobile and web platforms.
NextGen Acela is more than a new train-it's an evolution of travel. In just a few weeks, history will be made with the debut of NextGen Acela as we launch a new standard for American train travel.
With a maximum speed of 160mph, the new trains will feature an impressive tilt system meaning a smoother and quieter ride according to Amtrak. That's around 10mph faster than the existing Acela trains.
On board, passengers will also be able to enjoy premium features with 5G-enabled Wi-Fi and every new seat equipped with new power outlets, USB ports and reading lights.
The company will be rolling them out alongside the current Acela trains as they transition into a new fleet. The NextGen Acela also has 27 per cent more seating with new ergonomic seats and extra legroom.
