"“When we got there, something in my soul was just awakened. It was a transformative experience,” Kendra tells TODAY. “I was just overwhelmed with how I felt being in nature, so that really changed how we were choosing to spend our time and our money.”"
"“Acadia is just such a beautiful word,” Kendra remembers thinking. When she became pregnant about six years later, she went through all the baby books and considered a variety of names. “I just kept coming back to the name. It just really stuck because it was so meaningful to us, so we went with that.”"
"“I wasn't exactly sure how everyone would feel about it, or how she would feel about it,” she says. So they chose a traditional family name - Frances - as her middle name. “Luckily she loves it,” Kendra says of her daughter Acadia, now 9. “She enjoys having a unique name.”"
"“When the couple became pregnant again, they started thinking about using Willamette as the baby's name, both as a tribute to the area, a link to Acadia's name and a nod to Bill's legal name, William.” “I think technically the locals pronounce it Will-AAAH-mette, but we went with our own pronunciation, Will-uh-METTE, for these purposes,” laughs Kendra."
Kendra Fogarty first flew on an airplane during her 2012 honeymoon, traveling from Ohio to Maine to tour Acadia National Park. The experience felt transformative and changed how she and her husband chose to spend time and money. Years later, when she became pregnant, she reviewed baby books and repeatedly returned to the name Acadia because it felt meaningful. She added Frances as a middle name to keep the full name more traditional. Their daughter Acadia, now 9, enjoys having a unique name. When their family later visited Willamette National Forest in Oregon, they connected with the area as well. For their second daughter, they considered Willamette as a tribute to the place, a link to Acadia’s name, and a nod to Bill’s legal name, William, using a chosen pronunciation. They gave her the middle name Evelyn and traveled to the inspiring locations when each daughter turned 6.
