These Are the Most Stolen Hotel Room Items, According to Hospitality Workers

"Towels are the most frequently stolen hotel items, with nearly 9 in every 10 survey participants saying these bathroom essentials commonly disappear from rooms. According to the hospitality industry expert from Deluxe Holiday Homes, the high theft rate comes from how easy towels are to pack and sneak out."

"Sometimes guests think the bathrobes are free to take, but that's never true. They are actually quite luxurious items, costing hotels at least $50 each. Every second guest takes a hanger from the hotel with them."

A survey by Deluxe Holiday Homes of more than 1,200 hotel staff members and owners revealed the most commonly stolen items from hotel rooms. Towels rank first with 88 percent of respondents reporting them missing, due to their ease of packing. Bathrobes come second at 66 percent, with guests often mistakenly believing they are complimentary when they actually cost hotels at least $50 each. Hangers round out the top three most-stolen items, with approximately one in two guests taking them. This widespread theft occurs despite these items belonging to the hotel and not being intended as guest takeaways.
