"It's a way for us to process more passengers to use the equipment we have in place to help expedite the screening," TSA spokesperson Lorie Dankers told SFGATE.
"I know it's a little bit different because people aren't used to taking an elevator up to the security checkpoint, but if you end up doing that as your travel experience, you're gonna see that it really does work well," Dankers said.
"We look to add checkpoint capacity in our terminal projects, like this mezzanine-level checkpoint, which went live in June when the final phase of Harvey Milk Terminal 1 opened," Yakel told SFGATE.
With a daily average of 140,000 passengers expected from now until Sunday, according to SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel, these lanes will surely come in handy.
