Part 9: Why Do We Travel? To Heal | The Walrus
Briefly

Traveling allows individuals to reconnect with joy and appreciate life’s moments. Experiences in diverse landscapes, such as the Italian Alps, can evoke powerful emotions and memories. The journey not only encompasses the physical act of traveling but also the emotional release it can provide. Small villages, singing choirs, and beautiful surroundings contribute to a sense of calm and happiness. Travel enables a departure from past emotional turbulence, revealing the healing potential of exploration and natural beauty.
Travel can make our large world small, and we forgot what a gift this is until it all got taken away from us not too long ago. Returning to the skies is accompanied by a more appreciative mindset about traveling.
In the summer of 2017, I found myself on a bicycle hurtling down a mountainous track in the Italian Alps, oblivious to any physical dangers or the emotional turbulence of my life then.
The gondola took us to a tiny village nestled in a high vale. Singing filled the air from the open doors of a stone chapel, as we heard church bells ringing.
As we picked up speed on the bikes, the meadow gave way to tall pines, and I was surprised at my huge grin, a feeling absent for a long time.
