Chiltern Railways is reintroducing first class seating on its trains after over a decade, primarily aiming to enhance the commuting experience. The railway service, well-known for routes between London and various regions, will also upgrade its nearly 50-year-old fleet, incorporating features such as faster wifi, USB charging ports, air conditioning, and accessible toilets. Although more seats will be available through the rental of additional trains by the end of 2026, there will be no food or drink services provided in first class due to current market assessments.
Chiltern Railways has announced the return of first class onboard its trains, which hasn't been offered in over 10 years, adapting to market demand for an upgraded experience.
The railway company plans to upgrade its nearly 50-year-old trains, providing faster wifi, USB charging ports, air conditioning, and fully accessible toilets for all passengers.
Chiltern will be renting more trains than it has today to operate additional services from the end of 2026, responding to the rising demand for train travel.
Even with the return of first class seats, the company will not provide food or drink in this service, believing the market doesn’t warrant a fully catered offering.
