"Plans to transform an old campground near Lake Tahoe into a modern, resort-style destination have been approved. The Placer County site sits just off Interstate 80 near the small unincorporated community of Cisco Grove, around 20 miles west of Truckee and Donner Summit. The project will overhaul the Cisco Grove Campground's amenities while keeping all 144 existing campsites intact. According to the county, the upgrades will include a renovated general store and welcome center,"
"All amenities will be available only to registered campers; there is no option for public day use passes. The site was first developed in the 1970s as Rivers Edge Campground and once included a restaurant and motel before falling into disrepair, the Sacramento Bee reported. The campground will continue operating seasonally for tents and RVs from mid-May through mid-October, with limited RV camping during the winter months."
Cisco Grove Campground near Lake Tahoe, off Interstate 80 about 20 miles west of Truckee, will be renovated into a resort-style destination while preserving all 144 campsites. Planned upgrades include a renovated general store and welcome center, new swimming pool, snow-tubing hill with pavilion, miniature golf, pickleball courts, crafts pavilion, paddle boat dock, and other family-focused amenities available only to registered campers. The site operates seasonally for tents and RVs from mid-May through mid-October, with limited winter RV camping. The plan adds on-site housing for up to 32 employees and fire-safe design requirements developed with Cal Fire. Renovations occur on the Placer County parcel hosting about 47,000 annual guests.
