The Hamptons, a popular summer destination for the wealthy, also has many year-round residents who contribute to the community. Common tourist mistakes include the misconception that the area is exclusive to the rich and precluding the significance of longtime local families and small businesses. Additionally, visitors often overlook traffic considerations, leading to frustrating travel experiences. Acknowledging these aspects can greatly enhance the enjoyment of a visit to the Hamptons.
Many visitors don't realize the area is also home to longtime locals, like me, who live here year-round. I've seen many less-experienced tourists make the same errors over and over.
Believing the Hamptons are only for the rich and famous. In reality, these people are only one tiny part of what the Hamptons are about.
Many families have been here for generations, living on land their ancestors owned. They are 'land rich,' but not necessarily wealthy in the way people assume.
When it comes to driving in the Hamptons, miles don't equal minutes. Even a trip 5 miles down the road can be time-consuming due to traffic.
