I recently graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with no job. Moving abroad and becoming a digital nomad gave me a purpose.

Post-graduation, the author faced disillusionment amidst the pandemic, struggling to find purpose and direction. Initial plans to travel Southeast Asia were thwarted, leading to exploration of various career paths, including real estate and homeless services, both of which proved unfulfilling. Battling anxiety and depression, the author found new motivation through suggestions from family, ultimately deciding to embark on a solo journey to Italy. My original postgrad plan was to take a gap year to travel throughout Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, that plan was scrapped, so I used my savings to move to a nearby city.
Throughout that year, I was experiencing anxiety and depression. It felt like I had no real purpose or clear path for the future, which I had never experienced before.
My mom suggested I revisit my nomad plans, so that's exactly what I did. I bought a one-way ticket to Italy.
I packed my remaining possessions into one suitcase, put my cat, Isabelle, in a carrier, and took off.
