A parent expects the end of their 17-year-old joining family road trips and looks forward to regaining control of the car's music. The parent finds persuading a teenager to be in public difficult, persuading them to spend a week away even more difficult, and persuading them to holiday in Ireland hardest of all. The teenager questions what Donegal offers and sees the journey as long from home at the opposite end of the country. The parent notes that distance did not deter past flights of 2,500km to destinations such as 'Puerto del Somewhere.'
The days of our 17-year-old joining a family road trip to Donegal are numbered - then I'll finally get control of the music again Convincing a teenager to be anywhere in public with you is hard. Convincing them to go on holiday with you for a week is even harder. And it is harder again to convince them to go on holiday with you when you are holidaying in Ireland.
My 17-year-old's first question when I asked if he would like to come on holiday with us was, 'What's in Donegal?' It was a fair question - living down here at the opposite end of the country, it does seem a bit far, despite the fact distance never stopped us from flying 2,500km south to Puerto del Somewhere.
