""Hey, a rainbow!" I, the lone passenger on a Mount Adams Transportation Service (MATS) bus that just crossed the Columbia into Hood River, exclaim. "Oh, yeah, I get to see those all the time," the driver responds. "Last week I saw two double rainbows." My inner 5-year-old is envious. A few hours later I see my second rainbow of the day-it's not a double arch, but the tally is still pretty cool."
"So I stayed around town, sleeping in, watching Roku's Law & Order channel, and taking a hot soak at the new Lightwell Hotel; using my Gorge Pass to take a MATS bus across the river to White Salmon; sampling Hood River's surplus of breweries; buying way too many used books for someone who has to carry all her stuff home on three buses and a MAX train; and encountering more than my share of rainbows."
The traveler crossed the Columbia on a Mount Adams Transportation Service (MATS) bus and observed frequent rainbows, including two in one week. Low snowfall limited winter recreation and the Gorge-to-Mountain Express route operated weekends-only due to snow and staffing shortages, cancelling planned cross-country skiing at Teacup Lake. The traveler stayed in Hood River, slept in, watched Roku's Law & Order channel, took a hot soak at the Lightwell Hotel, used a Gorge Pass to ride MATS to White Salmon, sampled numerous breweries, and purchased many used books to carry home on buses and MAX. CAT's Columbia Gorge Express departs Portland seven times daily from Gateway Transit Center.
