A construction site accident in Toronto resulted in two male workers being trapped in a trench after a wall collapsed. Toronto police reported that the men were stuck approximately eight feet down, buried up to their waists. It took firefighters about an hour to rescue one worker, followed by a second roughly 40 minutes later. While one worker suffered significant injuries, the condition of the second worker remains uncertain, with conflicting reports about the severity of their injuries. Trench rescues are complex due to the medical risks involved in freeing trapped individuals.
It took firefighters an hour to extricate the first worker from the trench, after which he was taken to a hospital. The second worker was rescued approximately 40 minutes later.
Prior to us doing patient removal, it's vital that we get the medical treatment by pushing fluids, [so that] when we start releasing all that material away from the body, we don't have a sudden crash associated with crash syndrome.
