Tesla's Robotaxis Are Finally Testing Without A Safety Driver: Musk
Briefly

Tesla is preparing to launch its robotaxi service featuring driverless Model Ys in June, having conducted tests without safety drivers. CEO Elon Musk claims the testing phase began a month early, aligning with plans for a mid-June rollout. This marks a significant shift as Tesla intends to geofence the vehicles to ensure safety and control. Initially, a small fleet of 10-12 robotaxis will operate in selected safe areas of Austin, with expectations to scale up the number of cars quickly thereafter, reflecting a more cautious approach.
Tesla has promised to unleash a fleet of driverless Cybercabs very soon, and testing may already be underway.
Musk says that this particular round of testing began about 'a month ahead of schedule', which backs up rumors that the pilot service is planned for a mid-June launch.
