Tesla patent reveals strategy for solving major Full Self-Driving, Optimus issue

A granted Tesla patent describes a lens cleaning system that dispenses fluid and uses a wiper assembly to wipe it away. The system is intended to remove debris that can obstruct camera visibility. This matters for exterior cameras used by Full Self-Driving, since accumulated dirt can reduce the suite’s ability to operate effectively. The same approach could also apply to Optimus camera “eyes,” helping maintain clear vision for perception. Manual cleaning is currently required when visibility is impaired, but the patent suggests Tesla may plan to add automated cleaning to future vehicles. Camera washers have already appeared on some Robotaxi vehicles, and they may be included on upcoming fully autonomous vehicles.
