The newly announced Calala Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Tamworth, New South Wales, backed by Equis Australia, has secured $260 million in funding. This initiative involves 138 Tesla Megapack units, designed to provide substantial energy storage of 250MW/500MWh. The project is anticipated to be operational by 2027, constructed in two phases, and will create approximately 170 construction jobs. Utilizing Tesla's Autobidder platform for energy management, the project aims to supply Smartest Energy and contribute $2 million to the local council.
The Calala BESS will store enough power for 115,000 homes during peak usage, powered by a $260 million investment in Tesla Megapack technology.
Equis Australia has finalized a $260 million deal for the Calala BESS, which will bring significant energy storage capabilities to New South Wales by 2027.
