Tesla has announced plans to start production of its humanoid robot, Optimus, in 2025, with CEO Elon Musk stating that about 5,000 units are targeted for this year. The evolution of Optimus has been rapid, transitioning from a mere mockup in 2021 to working prototypes capable of interaction by 2022. Musk believes that Optimus could become the company's most significant product, potentially exceeding existing product benchmarks. Further production goals include ramping up to produce 50,000 units in 2026.
This year we hope to make about 5,000 Optimus robots... but even 5,000 robots is the size of a Roman legion FYI.
Optimus could very well be the biggest product of all time, likely being ten times larger than the next-biggest product.
Even half of 10,000 units would be a huge victory for Tesla, as Optimus is a completely different product.
Tesla is internally aiming for enough parts to produce 10,000 to 12,000 Optimus robots this year.
