A preliminary report from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada revealed that a Delta Air Lines jet was descending at nearly 1,100 feet per minute prior to landing in Toronto, which is significantly above the 600 feet per minute threshold for a safe landing. This excessive descent caused the main landing gear to malfunction upon touchdown, leading the aircraft to roll over and burst into flames, ultimately coming to a stop upside down. Remarkably, all 80 individuals on board were able to evacuate safely before an explosion occurred near the left wing.
The Delta passenger jet was descending at an excessive speed of 1,100 feet per minute before landing, nearly double the threshold for a hard landing.
Despite the dramatic crash, all passengers and crew evacuated safely before an explosion occurred near the left wing of the plane.
