20 years later, Ontario woman learns ashes of beloved cat Jewels are really those of a dog named Sparky | CBC News
Briefly

Valerie Stevenson accidentally discovered a dog tag labeled 'Sparky' in the ashes of her deceased cat Jewels, who passed 20 years ago. This revelation shook her, prompting her to initiate a search for Sparky's rightful owners. Despite unsuccessful attempts to call the number and visit the address associated with the tag, she remains determined to reunite the tag with its owners. Ultimately, this experience reflects the deep emotional connections we have with our pets and the unexpected paths memories can take.
"I wanted to cry," Stevensoln said. "I was shaken, just shaken in disbelief thinking, 'Holy crap, now what? Where's my girl?'"
Valerie hopes Sparky's owners might have Jewels's remains, but even if they don't, she would be happy Sparky went back to where he was meant to be.
"She would let us dress her up in doll clothes. She was like one of those cats that was just beyond tolerant," Rachel said.
