The Sacramento Kings and general manager Monty McNair have mutually parted ways following a disappointing play-in tournament loss. McNair's exit comes amidst tensions over decision-making authority, issue with coaching choices after Mike Brown's dismissal, and uncertain trades involving players like DeMar DeRozan and Zach Lavine. Despite a strong 2022-23 season, finishing with 48 wins, the team was unable to replicate that success, contributing to McNair's dismissal. Former Knicks GM Scott Perry is a leading candidate for the vacant position.
McNair didn't want to fire Brown, league sources said, and there are internal questions about whether he really wanted to sign DeRozan or trade for LaVine.
Tension also existed in recent days between McNair and the ownership group about Christie's future with (owner Vivek) Ranadive viewed as the Christie backer.
