Ateba Gautier faced Jose Daniel Medina at UFC Mexico City in a preliminary card bout. Gautier began with an aggressive strategy, landing powerful jabs and kicks that kept Medina on the defensive. Despite Medina's composure, he showed a lack of urgency, allowing Gautier to find openings with successive strikes. The turning point came when Gautier hurt Medina with a left hand and subsequently delivered a knee that ended the fight in Round 1. Gautier later attributed his success to following his coaches' advice, demonstrating a strong connection with his training.
After the fight, Ateba Gautier told UFC analyst Daniel Cormier that he had the ability to knock anybody out. As to his success, "I always listen to my coaches," said Gautier. "That's the secret."
The fight started with a power jab and outside leg kick from Gautier. Medina was unfazed but did eat an uppercut soon after.
