"Vincent Borgesi is a small but skilled defenseman, one that many NHL teams seemed interested in. Productive four years at Northeastern. Good skater, smart playmaker. Toronto's signing here is most likely about Marlies depth, but I like it."
"While Borgesi is lacking in size and weight, he makes up for it with high mobility and impressive footspeed. He has a high hockey-IQ that allows him to make the right plays at both ends of the ice, but his play in the offensive zone is his biggest strength as he moves laterally to create space along the offensive blueline and keep pucks in play."
The Toronto Maple Leafs signed 22-year-old right-shot defenceman Vincent Borgesi to a two-year contract beginning in the 2026-27 season. Borgesi will join the Toronto Marlies on an amateur tryout for the remainder of 2025-26. The contract carries an AAV of $987.5K with signing bonuses totaling $97.5K in year one and $100K in year two. Standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 185 pounds, Borgesi recently completed his collegiate career at Northeastern University, where he captained the team during his senior season. He led Huskies defencemen in scoring with 20 points across 36 games and earned a Hobey Baker Award nomination. Despite his smaller stature, Borgesi demonstrates high mobility, excellent footspeed, and strong hockey intelligence, with particular strength in offensive zone play and lateral movement along the blueline.
