"From the first time I saw him, I thought he was sick. He's a good goalie, man, you watch him out there. The Russians are feeding their guys something different. He's been great, super laid-back guy, always smiling."
"In the midst of his second season in North America after leaving AK Bars Kazan of the Kontinental Hockey League in the summer of 2024, Akhtyamov has taken strides in his development as a goalie prospect for the Leafs. He has emerged as the Toronto Marlies starter with a team-leading 32 starts and is among the AHL league leaders in wins with 18."
Artur Akhtyamov signed a three-year contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs at $900,000 AAV. The deal is two-way for the first season, then one-way for the remaining two years. Akhtyamov, in his second North American season after leaving the KHL, has excelled as the Toronto Marlies starter with 18 wins and a .904 save percentage. He earned selection to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic and received multiple NHL call-ups due to injuries. He made his NHL debut on December 13 against Edmonton, stopping all five shots in relief. The 24-year-old, drafted fourth round in 2020, is considered a top-five Leafs goaltending prospect.
