'I tried to just continue to dig deep': How J.J. Spaun battled Oakmont, rain and bad breaks for a U.S. Open title
Briefly

At Oakmont, torrential rainstorms interrupted play during a major championship, transforming the golf course into an almost unplayable state. After play was suspended, the grounds crew struggled to keep water off the greens, leading to difficult conditions for the players. Adam Scott described the situation as borderline unplayable, with fairways so soaked that golf balls lacked expected roll. It tested the patience and mental endurance of the players as they navigated dramatically changed playing conditions once play resumed.
At 4:01 p.m., play stopped. The 18th green was unrecognizable as a river of water ran through it.
Despite the squeegees, fairways were far from dry. Balls landed off the tee and never rolled -- or if they did, they went backwards.
