Westbound Gardiner Expressway lane closes for bridge repairs, will reopen May 2026 | CBC News
Briefly

The westbound Gardiner Expressway will be reduced from four to three lanes starting Wednesday due to essential bridge repairs, lasting until May 2026. The city’s chief engineer, Jennifer Graham Harkness, acknowledged the challenges these changes will pose for commuters, while assuring that congestion management measures, including traffic monitoring, will be implemented. Additionally, the eastbound lanes will be narrowed, but without lane closures, until November 2026. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and expect delays as the city coordinates construction around the clock, utilizing incentives for faster completion.
"We know that it's going to be hard, but we need to get this work done," said Jennifer Graham Harkness, the city's chief engineer and executive director for engineering and construction services.
"We fully appreciate that this is going to cause disruption and we are going to be continuing to monitor how the work is advancing," Harkness said.
