Toronto man found guilty of murder in deaths of his parents, attempted murder of brother | CBC News
"Ontario Superior Court Justice Joan Barrett said the Crown has proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Alpha Henry killed Colin Henry, 68, and Veronica Henry, 67, in their Rexdale apartment on Bergamot Avenue, near Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard, on Sept. 19, 2022. Barrett said Henry fatally stabbed both parents. Toronto police found their bodies doused with gasoline in the bathtub of their apartment. Veronica Henry suffered 16 "sharp instrument" injuries, while Colin Henry suffered 14 "sharp instrument" injuries, the judge said."
"Barrett said Henry also planned to kill his brother Daniel Kwame Henry when he returned home from overseas two days after the murders. She said Henry waited for his brother, stabbing him with a knife when he came through the apartment door. His brother escaped and called 911 from a nearby gas station. Daniel Henry was arrested, but later released. Alpha, who also suffered stab wounds, was taken to hospital where he was arrested and charged with murder and attempt murder."
""In this case, I find that the defendant's motive was anger towards his family," Barrett wrote her ruling in the judge-alone trial. Barrett said Henry had been estranged from his family for several months, he had not been invited to join the family in a move to a new home, and even though his mother had rented a room for him, he ended up homeless."
Ontario Superior Court Justice Joan Barrett found Alpha Henry guilty of second-degree murder for killing his parents and guilty of attempted murder for attacking his brother in September 2022. The parents, Colin, 68, and Veronica, 67, were fatally stabbed and found doused with gasoline in their bathtub, sustaining 14 and 16 sharp-instrument injuries respectively. Henry waited for returning brother Daniel, stabbed him, and Daniel escaped to call 911. Alpha also suffered stab wounds, was hospitalized, and arrested. Barrett concluded Henry's motive was anger rooted in estrangement, being homeless and excluded from a family move, and acknowledged some mental health problems.
