Alejandro Kirk was placed on the 10-day injured list after fracturing his left thumb in the 10th inning of a game against the Chicago White Sox. The injury occurred when a pitch was fouled off his glove. He was replaced by Tyler Heineman, who started in the subsequent game. The Blue Jays also recalled Brandon Valenzuela from triple-A Buffalo. Kirk, a two-time all-star, had a slow start to the season with one home run and three hits in 20 at-bats.
