Quebec zoo announces death of Canada's 1st white rhino, Shaboola | CBC News
Briefly

Granby Zoo announced the heartbreaking passing of Shaboola, a 45-year-old white rhinoceros, who had been suffering from multiple health issues leading to her euthanasia. Dr. Cedric Larouche, her veterinarian, described the decision as painful, emphasizing Shaboola's comfort had become unmanageable. Outliving her species' average lifespan by nearly a decade, Shaboola was a cherished resident, known for her interactions with school groups and her companion, a male rhino named K.C. The zoo plans to introduce two new rhino companions for K.C. in the spring, amidst the mourning of Shaboola's loss.
"It was a very hard moment," says Dr. Cedric Larouche, who treated Shaboola for over two years. "We could not manage to keep her comfortable anymore."
Shaboola was a character – sweet and always eager to get pets and food. "She was pretty strict about her boundaries," said Dr. Larouche.
