"If you went to the gym or did something that produced body odour, please shower before attending the game, reads the email sent out by Jason Hickman, the junior ice hockey team's director of ticket sales and service. "The team issued an apology on social media on Thursday, which said, it's not our place to overstep like we did. We are sorry and hopefully we can wash this one off. Hickman told DurhamRegion.com in an article published Thursday that he gets a lot of complaints from fans about the [person] next to them smelling like cat pee, bad breath, this, that and everything else. He told the news outlet that these complaints have increased in the last month."
The Oshawa Generals apologized after sending an email asking fans to shower if they had body odour before attending games. The email, sent by director of ticket sales Jason Hickman to season ticket holders, also urged use of hand-sanitizing stations, covering coughs and sneezes, and mindful personal cleanliness while sharing arena space. The message said small hygiene actions help keep the community healthy and events running smoothly. The email was widely shared on social media and CBC News contacted team representatives for comment. The team posted a social media apology saying it overstepped and expressing regret. Hickman said complaints about nearby fans' odors have risen in the past month.
