Toronto is introducing a new area code, 942, this weekend due to a looming shortage of phone numbers under existing area codes (416, 437, and 647). The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission indicated that the current numbering system could run out by April 2026. The new area code will be rolled out gradually, allowing consumers and businesses to receive new numbers with the 942 code. Notably, this change will not alter local calling boundaries or dialing procedures.
