Man who took Hamilton bus on joy ride 'did a great job' driving, left no dings, say police | CBC News
"There was not a ding on the bus. He did a great job,"
"It's comical but at the same time it's serious. We're thankful nobody was hurt."
"He even went as far as to deny someone looking to board with an expired bus pass,"
"We didn't want to spook him," he said. "We didn't want to make this a tragedy."
At about 9 p.m. a bus driver parked at the downtown MacNab Bus Terminal and left for a short break. A 36-year-old man with no fixed address boarded the bus, sat in the driver's seat and drove away up the Mountain. The bus was an extra-long articulated model with an accordion-like attachment. He made several stops along the route, allowing passengers to board and disembark; roughly ten passengers were aboard at one time. Passengers initially did not realize he was not authorized but corrected him after wrong turns. Officers tracked the bus via GPS, followed without using lights or sirens, and arrested the man about 15 minutes later on West 5th Street. Charges included theft over $5,000, possession over $5,000, obstructing police and driving while prohibited. No one was injured.
