Police got a call around 9:15 p.m. after two people fell off a Jet Ski near the beach, Duty Insp. Lhawang Jongdong told reporters at the scene late Monday morning. It's believed they fell off after hitting a wave. A female rider was able to get back on the Jet Ski and return to shore with the help of another Jet Skier, but the man she was riding with remains missing, said Jongdong.
Neither of them could swim well and only the female rider was wearing a life jacket, he said. Police, paramedics and firefighters searched the area from Sunday evening until 4:30 a.m., Jongdong said. Toronto police's marine unit resumed the search at 7:30 a.m. along with members of the Coast Guard. The search is ongoing. The family of the missing man has been informed of the situation, Jongdong said. He said they are devastated, but remain hopeful he will be found.
