""If you're the kind of cinephile who watches a movie and applauds when they see a head explosion, or an incredible stunt, or just an incredibly outrageous joke, this is the audience that you want to be a part of, this is the community that you want to be a part of," Kuplowsky said on opening night."
""We're always in the Halloween season and therefore the programming skews horror," he said."
""the cine-maniac.""
Toronto After Dark Film Festival opened at Scotiabank Theatre and runs five nights, showcasing horror, science fiction, and action films. The program includes ten feature premieres and 29 short films. The event marks the festival's 18th edition, which began in 2006 at Bloor Cinema and took a hiatus in 2024. Passes sold out before any films were announced. Programming ranges from horror comedies to a documentary about senior citizens making a horror film, Silver Screamers. The festival honors founder Adam Lopez by renaming the audience award the Adam Lopez Audience Award and selling t-shirts featuring Lopez as "the cine-maniac," with proceeds supporting Doctors Without Borders.
