Erica Vella, spokesperson for Toronto Pearson, stated, "Right now, our message to passengers is that they should be checking the status of their flight before they come to the airport." She emphasized that despite no operational impacts at Pearson, several airlines are proactively cancelling flights to Florida in anticipation of Hurricane Milton.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration reported that, as of Wednesday afternoon, numerous airports in Florida including Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Fort Myers have suspended operations due to Hurricane Milton.
Following the storm's impacts, Air Canada announced cancellations for its flights to Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa through to Friday while also implementing a flexible rebooking policy and adding over 1,100 seats for post-hurricane travel.
Porter Airlines, also responding to the hurricane, confirmed that all Florida flights have been cancelled on Wednesday, and all Orlando flights on Thursday, with passengers being automatically rebooked on later flights.
