Kiyara Letlow, a 22-year-old forward for Cape Breton University, excelled in basketball despite initially struggling as she transitioned from other sports. After facing challenges, including teammates not passing her the ball, she dedicated herself to becoming an exceptional rebounder. Her hard work culminated in breaking the Atlantic University Sport record for career rebounds with 1,022, all achieved in just four seasons. Now, Letlow aims to surpass the unofficial national record of 1,181 rebounds. Her success is attributed to her height, wingspan, and natural instinct for predicting where the ball will land.
"All of a sudden, I wasn't the best or the biggest or the fastest or the strongest anymore; it was hard to deal with," said Letlow.
"The fact that she broke this record in four seasons is bonkers, it's crazy," said Christopher Rao, CBU's interim head coach.
"Rebounding is a gritty job. Not everyone has the intention to go rebound all the time because it is hard, it's difficult," Rao said.
