"I would say he is an angel in terms of his character,"
Osemwengie Irorere, 46, from Nigeria, moved to Canada in 2023 to pursue a nursing career and lived in Oshawa. He was fatally shot on a GO Transit bus at the Yorkdale terminal on Jan. 4 around 7 p.m., becoming Toronto's first homicide victim of the year. Tyrel Gibson, 40, has been charged with first-degree murder after having been released from federal prison six months earlier following an eight-year sentence for assault and firearms offences. Police allege Gibson and Irorere boarded the same bus, Gibson shot Irorere and fled; a firearm was recovered after Gibson's arrest. Irorere leaves a wife and four children aged 20, 18, 16 and 13.
